The Trust take this opportunity to thank you all for joining for the new season and appreciate all those that made a donation to the contingency fund, too many to mention individually, but very much appreciated. The highlight of the past month was our major community event the Show Racism The Red Card (SRTRC). This was the 10th year of participating and both BairnsTrust and Falkirk FC (FFC) went for a more extravagant campaign to celebrate. The Trust had many more volunteers on hand at the match v Kilmarnock on Sat 20/10/07 to distribute promotional posters, red card, stickers and magazines. All were eagerly snapped up and at 3pm the players joined in on the pitch with the card, t-shirt and banner displays. We were pleased to have three times the number of Trinidadian Trust members also in attendance this year as well as a potential member from Uganda. All thoroughly enjoyed, heard their names over the public address system and had photos taken to promote the event.
On Wed 24/10/07 there was the Trust joint-funded SRTRC schools seminar and practical workshops, in companionship with Central Scotland Racial Equality Council, SRTRC, Central Scotland Police and Falkirk FC. BairnsTrust bused pupils from Grangemouth, Larbert and St Mungo's High Schools to the Falkirk Stadium for a day of sessions. This included talks to the pupils about the issue, showing of DVDs and a question and answer session all revolving around Show Racism The Red Card. Trust members and Committee were on hand to ensure the event went well. Our Trinidad Members were back to lend a hand and were ecstatic to meet everyone's hero Russell Latapy, vowing to begin attending games, starting at Gretna that weekend.
In the matchday programme v Gretna on Sat 03/11/07 there contained a detailed and informative article form our BairnsTrust Vice-Chairman and PR Officer on the success of the above events and the SRTRC venture.
You may be interested to note that an employment vacancy was being advertised by SRTRC seeking an Information and Support Worker to join the Glasgow based team. Duties included:
* providing support to campaign staff to deliver anti-racist educational workshops/events at schools, football clubs and community settings
* full administrative support to campaign staff
* general organisation of the office/office procedures
* updating of website
* stock management of educational resources and merchandise
Looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who has at least 2 years experience in a similar role, a commitment to anti-racism and excellent IT skills. Download the Application Pack
One BairnsTrust vacancy that still requires to be filled on the Committee is the position of Secretary following the resignation of the previous occupant. If you wish to be co-opted to this office-bearer post, please feel free to attend the next Monthly Meeting on Mon 19/11/07 or make your intentions known by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Falkirk FC's Company Secretary continues with the unenviable task of a shareholding register cleanup, after years of neglect. This will take some time. BairnsTrust Vice-Chairman will assist by offering Supporter’s Direct advice on the matter and this exercise will ultimately benefit all shareholders who hold a current financial interest in Falkirk Football Club. This was mentioned in last month's newsletter and attracted some interest. If you are an FFC Shareholder, possibly via the Trust's Sharesave scheme and are concerned at missing out on e.g. AGM documents due to a change of address, please respond to the Trust by your preferred contact method below and we will contact the Club on your behalf to have it checked out. It would be helpful to quote your Share Certificate number when corresponding.
In the matchday programme v Kilmarnock Sat 20/10/07 there was a photograph of the club donating a £250 cheque to Strathcarron Hospice on behalf of the Clydesdale Bank. This followed the half-time Crossbar Challenge event held on the season opening home game v Celtic that BairnsTrust Treasurer secured by scoring the only goal. Well done to Peter Jack.
BairnsTrust's next big community action will be the inaugural 'Kick-Out Bigotry (KOB)' campaign. This has been developed by a new Scottish charity 'Football For All' (FFA), which promotes positive social messages through football and is supported by the SFA, SPL, SFL and Sportscotland, as well as by the Scottish Government and it is a shared hope it will build on the good progress made so far in defeating bigotry and promoting harmony on the terraces and in our communities.
Football For All Campaign Director Roddy McNulty mentions that 'To date, fans from every club have responded positively to the Kick-Out Bigotry campaign - the overwhelming majority of football supporters have had enough of the sectarian hatred associated with Scottish football. Football For All calls for united fan, club and authority action this season – a concerted effort is required to confine religious bigotry to Scottish football history. If there is a will, there is a way to tackle this problem effectively.'
At the last BairnsTrust meeting on Mon 15/10/07, in tandem with other club's supporter's bodies, your Trust signed and returned a pledge backing the ideas, aims and principles of this cause. This will prove to be a crucial document should any incident of inappropriate behaviour arise in an around the Falkirk stadium on a matchday in the future as it can be referred to to confirm BairnsTrust and Falkirk FC were in at the beginning of the campaign to eradicate such behaviour and would reduce the Club's liability if eg. any fine was to be imposed.
Click the logo on our website for a direct link for more details at Kick Out Bigotry The website features news, views and much more as the Kick-Out Bigotry campaign gathers momentum during the 2007/08 football season. It also includes a Sectarian Incident Notification Form providing fans with the opportunity to record complaints of sectarian behaviour at any level of football.
At the end of November, FFA will be sending out promotional materials to local pubs and clubs that BairnsTrust have recommended and similar to SRTRC, the Trust will be distributing products at the game v Rangers on Sat 24/11/07. Again looking for members to help to distribute stickers and posters on the day from 11.45am until kick-off. Please intimate if you can assist via our email contact address at email@example.com or turn up early to the matchday stall on the day.
You may recall back in August 2005 BairnsTrust were advised of a group of Airdrie fans aiming to travel to all 136 UK football grounds to raise funds to purchase a mini-bus for Mavisbank School in Airdrie. The bus has been in constant use since and they wish to do a similar blitz of the 42 Scottish grounds over a forthcoming weekend. Arrangements are in place with the Variety Club of Great Britain and are looking for a minimum of 4 Falkirk fans and 1 vehicle to take part along with other like minded supporters from other clubs committing to raise £1,500 per team/club. There will be a celebratory Football Dinner Dance at the end of the event. For more details email our contact address at firstname.lastname@example.org to receive the covering pack or visit the organiser's website
All members will now have received your membership card. Encourage new members still to receive to save our postage costs and collect in person at the BairnsTrust stall located on the concourse in the Main Stand at the next home game after you submit your application.

Mentioning banners, BairnsTrust are now in possession of TWO PVC banners promoting the Trust. They will be displayed at prominent locations at the Falkirk Stadium and are portable for travelling around the country for matches and community events. FFC having spotted the popularity of the Trust electronic newsletter, have now launched their own monthly version and the first edition was quite impressive. Feel free to subscribe to 'The Navy Blue'
We have introduced another new feature onto our web site. If you have any interesting photos, which are Falkirk Football Club related and you would like share with others, then why not send them to us for inclusion on the Fans Pix page. We must ask that no obscene or inappropriate material be submitted as they will not be accepted. Images must not be copyrighted by anyone other than the individual submitting them and permission granted for BairnsTrust to use accordingly. Based on the success of our framed photo of the main stand at the stadium, the Trust may market any photos if enough interest is intimated in a particular photo. Please submit your electronic artwork to firstname.lastname@example.org FFC have also started a similar scheme at www.falkirkfcpics.com/
The Trust's own UEFA Champions League Fantasy Football Competition is going well and it's getting interesting at the top. This replaced our score prediction game that used to appear on our messageboard. The BairnsTrust mini-league is up and running. The table will be posted on the message board after every round of games and will hopefully create more interest in our messageboard at the same time. As a result participants receive regular, emailed magazines direct from UEFA.
The resident Falkirk Supporters' Sunday Football Team have been performing well recently. Further details can be found at ... www.bairnfica.co.uk and on the the League's website

The Trust have a stock old Falkirk FC HOME and AWAY programmes from this and previous seasons
for sale at £2 each. Also have some rarely available team sheets and after match stats sheets to compliment these. Visit our online shop that has a stock list of all our programmes for browsing here
In addition, BairnsTrust have obtained a large quantity of surplus home programmes from the past few seasons from the Club for an excellent, discounted rate. Now collated into “Bargain Bundles.” These bundles proved popular before and it’s anticipated this new stock will disappear as quick.
The programmes for sale at the stall are received by generous donations from numerous persons and are not from hospitality as has been suggested. The Trust gratefully acknowledge donations from the private collections of J Gardiner, P Mosson, C Christie, M Ritchie, D Paterson, A Totten and periodically from stewards, BairnsTrust Members and Committee. These such gestures are much appreciated and provide the Trust with a valuable income stream.
Falkirk FC has allowed BairnsTrust to become an Official Matchday Programme vendor using our stall on the concourse in the Main Stand at home games as the point of sale. We will cater for those who wish to buy INSIDE the Stadium pre-match and in return the Trust will receive the standard “sellers fee” in return. This is proving a great success so far. We urge Members to purchase their copy from the stall to allow the Club to monitor how successful and necessary this point of sale is.
The Scotland U21 v Czech Republic U21 game on Tue 21/08/07 at the Falkirk Stadium is attracting a lot of interest from Scotland fans for the programme that was produced. Although an SFA sanctioned publication, it was produced by Falkirk FC's matchday programme team, hence the rarity. BairnsTrust have been raising funds from selling the last of our stocks by online auction.
BairnsTrust encourage you to also purchase the Scottish Children In Need charity single
Stocks have now been obtained of the rare '1957 Cup Winners Re-union Brochure' from author Michael White. Already half the stock has been snapped up. Again to purchase, intimate via our email contact address at email@example.com
or visit our stall or online shop
Negotiations are in place at the stall to stock Michael's new book that will be out in time for Christmas. This will be the fourth volume in the series covering Falkirk's history by season from the end of volume three up to the present.
The Trust website continues to receive a significant number of hits. Our IT Team reveal, from a recent snapshot of BairnsTrust website stats, some pretty impressive worldwide interest. We have had visitors from Birmingham, Leeds, London, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Plymouth, St. Albans, Cardiff, Newport, Oslo, Canberra and Brisbane in Australia, Bensalem and Harrisburg both in Pennsylvania, Rancho Cucamonga in California and even Guangzhou in China.
The Andy Lawrie Testimonial between Falkirk FC and Sunderland FC took place on the evening of Thu 15/11/07 at the Stadium. Details here nearly all of the sponsorship packages were snapped up early ...
Read more at FFC Official site and also the match report
LATE NEWS: Following the late withdrawal of a major national newspaper from sponsoring the back of the shirts for the Andy Lawrie Testimonial, BairnsTrust were approached to step in to the breach. For a drastically reduced fee the Trust name was displayed on the shirts and a full page advert appeared in the commemorative programme. BairnsTrust usually sponsor a first team shirt each season, but felt it was no longer getting the Trust the exposure desired. This opportunity more than met our advertising needs, for a similar financial outlay. To recoup this outgoing it is hoped Trust branded memorabilia from the night can be used as prizes/donations at our future social events.
Finally, if you have any topics or articles you wish to be included in future BairnsTrust Electronic Newsletters, please respond by your preferred contact method below.
One such article came from our recently re-signed Norwegian Members to the Trust. They are celebrating themselves these days as the Norwegian season came to an end with the local team Brann Bergen needing only 1 point to win the 2007 Norwegian Championship. With the last 3 games versus Aalesund (Away), Viking (Home) and Tromso (Away) the title was duly secured for the first time in over 40 years. Our Members hoped we heard the roar from Bergen across the North Sea! The astute will know this is the club that former Aberdeen player Robbie Winters has been playing with for the past 5 years. If you want to read more, visit their website ... In the right upper corner you'll find News in English.
Look forward to seeing you at the next monthly meeting where there will be a chance to win a prize for attendees!
